The purpose of this blog is to create a place specifically about losing babies due to recurrent umbilical cord problems. I hope it will benefit others who find themselves in a similar situation.
Our Story
WARNING: This blog contains adult situations and psychological nudity.
The medical community appears to have very little interest in this problem. Often it is just dismissed as random "bad luck", though there is research that shows otherwise. We don't believe it is random. I will list the very limited information I've found on the subject, including case studies, research, useful websites and organizations, and other information.
My interest in this topic is personal. Many years of marriage have brought husband Q and I four cradles (David 2003, Tania 2005, Anastasia 2011, & Nadia 2015) and two graves (Jeremiah 1/5/2007 and Miles 7/17/2007). Jeremiah and Miles both died of cord problems - hypercoiling and stricture, respectively. Nadia also had cord stricture.
After our losses I was diagnosed with endometriosis and secondary infertility. Blood clotting issues are an unconfirmed possibility.
Here's a brief history of our journey. After several years of infertility, we finally got our rainbow baby in 2011. Anastasia brought us the happy ending we'd hoped for and we were perfectly happy to leave it at that, but then in early 2015 I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. We feel very lucky that this baby lived despite cord stricture.
